Longer days, blooming flowers and… road trips. The signs of Summer abound. Last week my wife Vanessa, our youngest daughter Madeline, and myself stormed the gates of Summer with our first road trip of the season. Driving late into the evening, still in the light of a glowing sunset, with the highway lined with fields of lupines, we were en route to Lunenburg, N.S, where my elder daughter, Samantha, now resides.
It was a whirlwind trip. Travelling over 1000 kilometres for a single day away meant packing a lot into a 24-hour window. And so, “pack” we did! The itinerary was rigorous: an early morning 5-k run; yogurt parfait breakfast at the local “Bicycle Lunchbox” cafe; a visit to Hirtle’s Beach; a three-kilometre nature hike; pizza in downtown Lunenburg; flavored cones at the ice cream shop and then….on the road again, homeward bound.
The visit was ambitious but unquestionably worthwhile – a testimony to the length we will go to spend time with loved ones.
This Summer, wherever our travels may take us, let’s squeeze the loveliness of it- enjoying the longer days, beholding the splendor of God’s good creation and savoring precious time with family and friends.
Above all, in the midst of making the most of every minute, let’s not forget to take time for the Lord – to walk with God and to find a church, wherever our travels might take us and to worship Him in spirit and in truth. In the words of the psalmist:
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
(Psalm 46:10-11 ESV)
The Lord bless you and keep you,
